So far 3 interviews in Switzerland 2 phone interviews and in-persons Each interviewer asked me about my plans on getting pregnant, when do I plan to have children? I didn't get either jobs one company I was in the finals, then after this question, was suddenly dropped from consideration I'm from the US where this is illegal I think?!

My question is: should I cover up my age in my CV? I'm thinking about removing my Birthdate as well as several years of work experience in order to look younger on paper everyone thinks I'm 27 in appearance when questioned, I say it's either personal business, or I do not want children a lie I've also noticed on many job postings here that the ad specifies the age range i.

Seeking Young I'm quite surprised that employers here can get away with doing this so blatantly???? Interested to hear if this is illegal or not, when I apply for job it may certainly affect me, although i have no plans to have more children - guess i'll have to tell them my hubby has had the snip! Bit personal i think. Its not illegal afaik as its become a fairly standard question. Use the search function its been covered before. Welcome to some of the harsher aspects of job-seeking in CH Requirements were young, good-looking and female.

My OH has created mild waves he's a seismologist in his department for insisting employment ads be rewritten in less gender-specific terms. Good luck in the job hunt. Part of me thinks if that is the attitude an employer has you wouldn't want to work for them anyway The following 2 users would like to thank idefix for this useful post: fatmanfilms , FMX.

I wouldn't want to work for them anyway Lame! I'm just surprised to see so many postings like this - mentioning "good looking female wanted This is Switzerland not America or the UK and many of the laws, rules and regulations here are markedly different. Here it's not illegal to ask such questions related to future family planning nor to stipulate an age range in job adverts.

I wouldn't lie or start doing so either on your CV or in interviews if I were you. Once you start down that route, it's impossible to back track and if you get found out, there are little to no employment rights here, so be careful! It's not illegal to ask, and it's also not illegal for you to respond however you wish, whether you mean it or not.

It would start getting dodgy if you edit your past experience, they do in my experience verify details on the CV very closely here. The following 2 users would like to thank woolly for this useful post: drmom , FMX. This user would like to thank Leggat for this useful post: MusicChick. It's probably not illegal; however if the interviewer offers to donate towards the pregnancy, that would be considered inappropriate in many Cantons. This user would like to thank Assassin for this useful post: cannut.

Not surprising considering the time women were allowed to vote in Switzerland. Mind you, Switzerland is still relatively lagging behind when it comes to many issues related to gender equality.

I was asked that question. I didn't lie. However, it seems to me that the companies are not so worried about the ridiculously short maternity leave itself, but the fact that most women either stay home for several years after having children, or go part time.

As I could assure them that this is not common in my culture and I plan to return to work full time even after having children, I was still hired. Switzerland is substantially less paranoid than the US when it comes to personal information and the fear of discrimination lawsuits.

However, it is NOT allowed here to ask about a current or planned pregnancy in an interview with few exceptions, e. You are officially allowed to lie about your plans without having to fear any consequences whatsoever. When it comes to adapting your CV: frankly, you can cover up your birth date all you want.

Today only. Although illegal in the states to ask that question, I think it's a fair question from the employers point of view. If they hire a woman and she's about to get pregnant they have to accommodate that absence by either hiring a replacement or getting someone temporarily while that woman is on leave.

It's very expensive to hire and train a new employee so if they hired you and 6 months from now, you were out on maternity leave, they'd have to go through those costs all over again. I'd be honest and say that maybe a year or two down the line you might start a family and see what kind of response you get.

It could be a safety issue like someone mentioned above. Good luck in your search. This user groans at LittleGirl for this post: princessduck. Village Idiot. Not once the kids are there - I mean, who will take care of the little ones, especially once they start going to school and coming home 3 hours later for lunch.

Not once kids are older - women are too old by then to work anyways. Just save us the bother and stop educating us in the first place Women of the world!
