Spokane lies in the Northern Rockies ecoregion near the eastern edge of the basaltic Channeled Scablands steppe, a plain that eventually rises sharply to the east towards the rugged, timbered Selkirk Mountains.

What makes this good size town stand out, is the location on the beautiful Spokane river. There was a food festival going on and it was super crowded.

On a day without this event, walking Living in a rural area about 12 miles from downtown, Spokane is my frequent "go-to. Even under construction, as of right now, Riverfront Park is still a wonderful place to view the river, the falls, and the shorelines.

It takes a little common sense, but visitors can figure out the locations of such places as The INB formerly Opera House , Convention Center, Martin Woldson at the Fox Spokane Symphony Orchestra and more , and the wineries--oh, yes, the fantastic wineries and tasting rooms.

Spokane is also becoming a "foodies" delight for visitors who enjoy a remarkable range of regional, national, and international cuisine. Whether it's a night on the town, a week of tourism, some time as a guest with relatives, or a business trip, etc.

Oh, by the way, Winter in Spokane is cold and it snows. We were surprised at the large size of downtown and the variety of its hotels, restaurants, bars, and shopping. We felt safe walking around at night due to the number of pedestrians on the street. I stay in Spokane often. My husband comes along with me and we walk to the restaurants for dinner from the hotel. In the Summer there are outdoor restaurants in the alleys to eat dinner or have a cocktail.

We always feel relatively safe walking after dark. Just stick to the main roads. There is a nice park to jog through in the daylight and in the Summer they have concerts along the Spokane River Walk.

The weather from May-October is nice and sunny highs in the mid 80s. This was my first tirp to Spokane.

I had a chance to visit several of the stores and restaurants. The downtown is old, but has lots of class. The buildings are old but many of them have been updated.

I love being this kind of environment. The Spokane downtown is walkable from the Davenport Hotels and several others in the area. The area has numerous parks, mall, movie theater and several special venue theaters. There are bars, wine tasting venues, and craft beer tasting rooms, along with all types of restaurants.
